J. Meinlschmidt Traditional ML

Our valves are produced by J. Meinlschmidt in Germany, who have been famous for their valves since 1896. We wanted a traditional valve without any frills, and this particular model does the job with a solid feeling and very precise action.

Additionally, our valve section is a workhorse that you can rely on for a lifetime.

One-piece bell

Bach New York Replica

Our bell is based on the one that Vincent Bach made at their New York factory in 1951. We’ve kept the traditional french bead (that’s the thick ring at the end of the bell). Each bell is hand-hammered from a single piece of brass (72% copper / 28% zinc) measuring 0,5 mm. in thickness.

All our bells are made in Germany by Bernd Sandner.

Lead pipe

Mt. Vernon or New York?

It begins in Elkhorn, Wisconsin: The fine folks at M/K Drawing make the tubing, then ship it off to Georgia, where everything is finished by Charlie Melk of Charlie’s Brass Works.

On The Standard we use a #7 lead pipe which is a replica of the legendary Mt. Vernon trumpet. However, we’re kind of nerdy when it comes to lead pipes, and we have a pretty good selection of different models in stock that you can compare.

Before signing off on each instrument, we adjust the resistance to fit your playing style.

Tuning Slide

Standard square

We recommend a traditional square tuning slide, which comes the closest to feeling like a real Mt. Vernon. We use a standard waterkey, and trust us, that’s what you wan’t.

If you’re not as conservative as us, we do stock tuning slides in both round and semi-round – brass and Sterling silver.

What finishes are available?

The trumpet is raw brass with no finish. Silver or Gold plating are available upon request. Contact us for current pricing. Please note that a finish can also be applied at a later time.

What does the price include?

The price includes a trumpet in raw brass. There’s no case, and no mouthpiece, but if you need accessories, let us know, and we will send you an estimate.

We ship world wide, which rarely costs more than USD 100. We’ll send you an estimate with your confirmation.

How do I pay?

Once your instrument is done, we will send you (or your orchestra) an invoice, which you can pay via Credit Card, Bank transfer, or PayPal. We’ll ship your instrument once we’ve recieved payment. Unfortunately we are unable to offer financing or payment plans.

If you are picking up the instrument in our workshop, you can also pay cash (though we prefer one of the methods above).

Where can I try it?

Our workshop in Copenhagen, Denmark, has a small selection of our instruments that you can test. At the moment we do not work with retailers. However, if you send us an e-mail we’d be glad to introduce you to a player in your area, or make arrangements to visit you next time we’re in your neighborhood.

Is there a trial period? Return policy?

Upon receipt of your trumpet, you have two weeks to try it. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please contact us for a refund. We will refund the price of the instrument but ask that you cover shipping costs.

Do I have to pay sales tax (VAT)?

This depends where you are:

  • If you are a private individual within the European Union, you have to pay Danish VAT, which is 25%.
  • If you are a VAT-registered company within the European Union (but outside of Denmark), you do not have to pay VAT.
  • If you are a private individual or a company outside the European Union, we will export the instrument without VAT. However, there may be import duties when the instrument is imported to your country.

Some companies avoid import duties by declaring the value of the instrument as being lower than what it is. We’re not one of those companies.

Do you do endorsements?

As much as we’d like to, we’re too small to give away our instruments, and we have never done this. We’re really grateful for the support we’ve had from the many talented players who play our trumpets. But they’ve all paid for them.

However, we’ll never ask you for free concert tickets.
